Nature Sounds for Relaxation and Meditation. According to psychologists, nature sounds are very useful for people to manage stress.

Calm down with nature: Just the sound of nature is beneficial for our health. Experts also suggest that not all natural sounds have the same effect. Rain sounds are the most effective nature sound.

A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences revealed that nature sounds are good for mood and health.

For the study, researchers from Carleton University, Michigan State University, Colorado State University, and the National Park Service asked dozens of students to listen to different types of sounds in the recording.

The sounds played included recordings of wildlife and natural sounds from 251 sites in 66 national parks in the United States, from rain to the howling of wolves.

Rainy weather makes some people happy. Among the clinical concepts developed by psychologists on this issue is a type of depression triggered by seasonal changes. Accordingly, depression intensifies in certain seasons. A subtype of this is reverse seasonal affective disorder and is called "summer depression" or SAD for short. SAD is usually triggered in the fall or winter when temperatures drop and daylight becomes scarce. But only 10 percent of these cases involve the summer season, and they usually happen in people living in sweltering climates like India.

Reasons why rain makes you feel happy
Psychologists have developed several explanations for why some people with anxiety find cloudy days more relaxing. One theory is that these people's brains are "hungry for sensory input." Rain produces a sound called white noise. The brain satisfies this need for sensory input by making use of the mind-calming white noise of rain. Just as the bright sunlight enlivens us.


Rain brings people closer to nature. Many people who are depressed or anxious like to perceive the rain as empathy and sharing of troubles that nature has established with them. A beautiful and sparkling day may not reflect what they have in mind and may make them feel alien and alone. The effect is even stronger if the person is ready to calm down with rain or snow. Seeing clouds becomes a stress reliever.
