Charles Malki, Biologist & Plant Expert for https://IVOrganics.com/ shares several tips for successfully propagating figs in the warmer summer months. Also, demonstrated is the upside-down cutting method to accomplish much faster-rooting success, and to creating faster fruiting fig trees! About 10+ years ago applying this upside-down cutting method to a 3-4 foot long cutting which within 3-4 months grew an additional 6 feet plus supported dozens of quality figs. The logic is that that if each subterranean branch pushed some roots, multiplied by the number of subterranean branches, results in plenty of support for quality figs in the first few months of being planted! 😊
The following is a summary of the topics discussed:
(1:58) Selecting hardy wood.
(3:53) Cut base at an angle, plus scoring.
(4:25) Ideal cuttings should be about 3-5 nodes and/ or 6-8 inches. Too long will likely desiccate, dry out & die.
(6:40) Upside-Down Cutting Method
(9:06) WhiteWash with IV Organic® 3-in-1 Plant Guard to avoid risk of 1st, 2nd &/or 3rd degree sunburn damage.
(10:51) Once cuttings begin to root within 3-6 weeks, you may begin to lightly fertilize with IV Organic® All Purpose Fertilizer.
