New South Wales to increase police power in Sydney

Discussions are underway in Sydney to increase police presence and a further extension of power to crack down on non-compliance.

The new measures also aim to close any loops which may be exploited to allow people to leave Sydney and head to the regions for nonessential purposes.

There is currently 300 ADF personnel patrolling Sydney streets but Premier Gladys Berejiklian indicated the police commissioner has the power to request more and is likely to do so.

A plan is likely to be finalised tomorrow afternoon after the Crisis Cabinet meets.
