Bill Maher, a comedian for liberals who think wokeness is as dangerous as ISIS, used his monologue to complain about young people complaining about the war in Afghanistan online. Don’t Hollywood elitists have more interesting things to talk about than teenagers’ tweets?
Bill Maher either doesn’t understand, or chooses to ignore, that the immigrant groups he’s referencing are victims of American imperialism, regardless of their personal feelings about the country they’re fleeing to. In a very real sense the U.S. is doing the bare minimum by letting in refugees from countries we have destabilized, and even that is hugely difficult to do politically and logistically because of the byzantine processes our government chooses to abide by.
Bill Maher somehow thinks that one of the most boomer things to say, “we live in a free country and also the best country in the world,” is somehow a bold or transgressive thing to say in an age of cancelling and virtual reality. Sorry dude but we’ve been hearing that same line for 60 years, and it certainly doesn’t sound any better when you repeat it.
