The country’s largest grocery retail chain Shwapno, run by ACI Logistics Limited, is optimistic to keep winning the confidence of customers with authentic items and by expanding its operation countrywide.
ALL executive director Sabbir Hasan Nasir in an interview with New Age at his office on August 31 said that Shawpno was confident of receiving the attention of increasing consumers because of the value and convenience it provides and the standard it pursues for maintaining safe and quality items from both local and foreign sources amid challenges, including the lingering COVID pandemic.
ACI Logistics Limited has already increased the share of locally-sourced farm outputs, processed food products and manufactured items in its merchandise basket, with detailed information, to 23 per cent over the past 12 years, he said.
The information, among others, is about standards and quality of the locally-grown farm products, their growers, the inputs used, pest management methods applied, etc.
The share of such products in its outlets will further increase in the coming years, he said.
Unlike other retail operators, Sabbir said, Shwapno maintains transparency in its sourcing of imported goods — from authentic importers or the company’s exclusive distributors.
Shwapno follows the HACCP system of food safety management and in 2016 became a member of GLOBAL GAP — a system of maintaining good agricultural practices.
Beginning its operation in 2008 with a single outlet at Arsin Gate at the eastern fringe of the capital, Shwapno became the market leader in the capital by 2013 in terms of number of outlets.
But it had to wait until 2016 to achieve its best local retail brand award.
Sabbir, however, rated ‘Asia’s Marketing Company of the Year of 2020’ Shwapno achieved as the most prestigious award it has bagged so far.
The recognition is the testimony to the chain’s humanistic approach to business, its purposeful journey of inclusivity, its social innovation around the growers, the consumers of all walks of life, including the less privileged ones, he noted.
