Bodie, California, a Genuine Wild West Ghost Town

Nestled in the hills of the Eastern Sierra, Bodie is a genuine California ghost town frozen in time. Up to 10,000 people were drawn to Bodie, after gold was discovered in 1876. The town flourished until all the gold was extracted. Then as quickly as it boomed, it went bust. Bodie was considered a ghost town by 1915. Bodie, California's official Wild West Ghost Town, is now part of the California State Parks system. Getting there involves driving on a dirt road, so make sure the park is open before you hike among its hundred or so structures which are being maintained in a state of arrested decay.
