Painting on unstretched canvas has messy edges, but a frame helps me check if it's finished.

Painting on unstretched canvas has messy edges, but a frame helps me check if it's finished.

I like to paint on unstretched canvas, then later I mount my painting onto a cradled panel. I have to cut the canvas a bit bigger than the size I am painting so it reaches the edges. Then I trim if after the glue dried.

I keep a small frame around so that I can see what the painting looks like in it's actual size, and without the messy edges.
