North Korea is known for being the most difficult country in the world to escape, but just how difficult is escaping? The most obvious option, crossing the border into South Korea, is nearly impossible, because that is the most fortified border in the entire world. Even trying to escape to North Korea's bordering countries, Russia and China, is extremely difficult, because there is a chance that you would just be deported back to North Korea.
The closest country which is safe to travel to would be Japan. However, the 900km journey through the Sea of Japan is very treacherous, and very few people have ever completed the journey.
