Premier Daniel Andrews’ may have locked down Victoria with an “abundance of caution", but the state-wide restrictions will cause an “abundance of pain” for those in the regions, says Sky News host Chris Smith.
“Just after Victorians were told by their Chairman and their Prime Minister that lockdowns have to be the last resort, Daniel Andrews locks down at the 18 case mark,” he said.
“They all keep saying it’s with an abundance of caution. Well for regional Victorians, it creates an abundance of pain."
Mr Smith said the premier’s “risk-averse” approach is an attempt to make himself a hero.
“The Daily Dan from 2020 is back in full flight,” he said.
“He declared yesterday that you only get one chance to go hard and early. Not one, try five. You don't beat it... that’s the point.
“On the politics of this, we know he spent millions of dollars monitoring the public's reaction to what he did last year.
“And if you look closely, he has this uncanny ability in front of the cameras to use this disproportionate and risk-averse approach to show himself up as a hero.”
